Together & Thomas Bouillot
Thomas, former colleague at …,staat and driving force behind our continuous use of tools like Notion and are.na, always challenged us to try on different glasses, change our views on ideas, clients and projects. He might as well was one of the initiators of this slack group, and was for a long time our digital beacon in an analogue world (or still is). Last year he returned to France to start as a strategist at AKQA. Here’s what’s currently keeping him busy.
Currently
Working as a strategist at AKQA Paris and training for the Ironman 70.3 WC later this year.
Currently reading
I’ve recently finished American Pastoral by Philip Roth. I love American literature, especially post-WWII. So Philip Roth was a must add to the library.
I’m now halfway through “How Emotions Are Made: The Secret Life of the Brain” by Lisa Feldman Barett. It can be a bit dull sometimes, but it’s really interesting overall. It really make you question which other “basic” topic is often wrongly taught/perceived.
I’ve also recently read a “Routine Maintenance” by Meghan O’Gieblyn, in Harper’s Magazine. It was the last online piece that really caught my attention. It talks about the relation between the church, industrialization, and routines and habits.
Having a routine is really under-appreciated.
Currently watching
“Scene from a Marriage” is emotionally heavy, but man it was a great TV show. Now I just need to brace myself to watch the original version by Bergman.
I’ve watched “Raw” the first movie of Julia Ducournau before watching “Titane” that won the latest French cinema award. It was good, but quite weird, I recommend it.
Currently listening
A couple of jazz playlists while working and sometimes the MX endurance podcast to keep in touch with triathlon news and training tips.
Currently eating
Being back in France, I can finally eat fresh, good, and accessible vegetables so I’m fully switching back to a Mediterranean style of cuisine. Good bread, burrata, tomatoes, and olive oil. And for dessert a home-made tiramisu Speculoos.
Currently drinking
I recently bought a really good coffee machine and grinder, so I’m currently experimenting a lof with espresso.
Otherwise water, maybe a glass a of wine, SIS for training, Maurten for racing
Currently obsessed about
The science behind endurance training. I’m currently trying to implement in my training, several new things like blood lactate testing, recovery run/ride…etc….
Adjust the balance between training and life stress, between volume and intensity, nutrition etc... It is endless.
Currently distracted by
Meetings and slack. I recently joined a big company and I’m still not used to the crazy amount of meetings I have to attend to, nor the constant flux of Slack notifications.
Currently trying to avoid
Getting Corona, injured, or overtrained, that would be nice for 2022
Currently frightened by
Metaverse and Crypto. Maybe frightened isn’t the word, but deeply dubious about it, there is so much noise and attention about it. I’m wondering what’s in it for people really.
Currently transcended by
People using Are.na. It is one of the rare places that inspire me and keep me curious.
Currently fulfilled with
Meeting old friends, after almost a decade living abroad, it feels good to rewind back a bit and find part of yourself, language, habits etc...
